When I hear someone mention love. I think of the bible verse in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7. "Love is patient; love is kind. It doesn't envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth." Despite its reputation as a beautiful emotion, love can be incredibly destructive. It goes beyond the romanticized notions of passion and affection. Love is the reality of sleeping alone because you know you deserve better. It is refusing to settle for half-hearted love or insincere apologies. Love demands that you face your flaws and stop indulging in self-deception. The biblical part about the truth is the part that can be most damaging. It strips away the illusions and forces you to confront your crap. In its true form, love is a mirror that reflects the raw truth about ourselves, exposing the weaknesses and insecurities we often try to hide. It can be painful, but ultimately, through the fire, we grow and learn to love ourselves fully and unconditionally. When you love yourself unconditionally, you're unable to have anyone in your energy who isn't authentic. When God shows you yourself, you can't unsee it. Your truth is on a billboard with flashing lights. All the ways you previously hid from yourself won't work. You can't eat it away, shop it away, or smoke it away. All the distractions you have created to avoid sitting in your truth won't work. When God searches your thoughts and shows you how He wants to lead you, it can feel like a bomb exploded in your life. The truth will make you quit your job, move across the country, end relationships, and rearrange everything to seek true love for yourself. To seek the love that God has shown you He has for you. When you reach the other side of your Dark Knight of the Soul experience, your ego has melted away, and God restores you to your original self. To the self that was told you have to change to fit into a box so the world can tolerate you. The opinions of others will not matter. What matters is being your authentic self; that means pleasing your heart. Only then will you know absolute freedom to find your passion. Remember, God rewards the brave. The process is ugly, but the reward is so sweet and beautiful when you reach the other side.
